Smart Utility, monitors the health of your hard drives

All users of Apple’s platform is more used sooner or later to worry about the guts of the system, but we must not forget that any computer is susceptible to mechanical failure in its components. In the most inopportune moment (and always tends to be) can suffer from a failure on a hard drive and lose all the information contained in it.

SMART Utility is a software program developed by volitans which is responsible for communicate with the SMART system, introduced by manufacturers of hard drives within them, to collect data on the disk status. The program does nothing but run a status check of the hard drives included in the machine, even detects different disks attached RAID. The program will detect the hours it takes to operate the hard drive, temperature and potential physical errors in the same sectors. The program itself will collect all these data against possible hazards to determine the integrity. It is fully integrated with Growl, so you receive any data through it allowing the test run in the background. Is not a free program, but cost 18 Euros seems not excessive for a program that can alert you about the need to change a hard drive before it’s too late.
